Social Anxiety Disorder Support - Great Sources Available
Thousands of people nationwide suffer from Social Anxiety disorder. While it may not appear all that serious to some who do not suffer from it, it is a big apprehension for those who do.
For those people who endure it and don't even know about the disease, it can be viewed as being overly shy and hesitant. These people are unaware that there are alternatives and there are treatments available.
The way social anxiety disorder works is that people are scared of being in public where they think people are staring at them with judgmental looks. Some of these people even have problems talking with people and can suffer symptoms that include: blushing, sweating, stammering (you can not seem to get a word out) and shaking.
Oddly enough, the disorder begins in childhood. As an adolescent, they are seen mostly as those who are very shy and like to play alone. As they turn into adults and have had no support or treatments, the problem increases.
The disorder can affect a person's daily lifestyle and routine. It can also affect a person's relationships, both on a personal and a professional level. Education worries also are affected. Many of these people have had these problems for so long, they are not aware of the treatment options available.
Luckily, there are people, trained psychologists and psychiatrists, that are out there to help in dealing with social anxiety disorder. One type of support of social anxiety includes: creating a treatment plan which will consist of cognitive behavior therapy. This treatment type deals with the brain and the views it has. The purpose behind it in social anxiety is to work through the beliefs that bring on the attack in the first place and change that into a positive thinking outlet. Along with this type of therapy, counseling is helpful for the sufferers of the disorder.
Since some people are often seen as happy go lucky and outgoing all the time, they do not understand what anxiety disorder does to a person. They seem to think it is all about shyness when it is so much more than that. This is a serious disorder than can only be treated by seeking help. This is a problem that cannot be "cured" on its own.
The support for social anxiety can be quite beneficial and its success rate is high. Counseling on a one-on-one basis is offered by many psychologists and psychiatrists. The person suffering will be seen as often as the doctor thinks they should be.
A type of treatment available to aid in the recovery of the disorder is role-play. Another helpful means is getting together with a support group where those who suffer the same debilitating disease talk about it and come up with ways to deal with the effects.
There are also social anxiety help lines for support. The individual will call a number, usually it is a 1-800 number and can speak with a person on the other end that can walk and talk them through the issue bothering them. Many large cities can offer both of these support groups. Perhaps you can find them in your cities' yellow pages.
